Halloween – a day that strikes fear in the hearts of both dentists and dietitians. It’s the one day of the year when sweets aren’t just expected – they are practically demanded.

Hand Washing 101

Washing your hands – it’s the simplest way to prevent illness and the spread of germs. With the H1N1 virus or swine flu making the news, it’s more important than ever to take precautions against disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that hand washing is the best way to prevent infection.

But while we may be washing our hands, are we washing them correctly? Cindy Lott, RN, is an Infection Prevention Specialist at Norman Regional Health System.

“While people may be washing their hands, we want to make sure they are washing them the right way,” Lott said. “Not washing hands long enough or touching the faucet after cleaning hands are two of the biggest mistakes people make.”

New Surgery Promises Heartburn Sufferers Can Say Goodbye to Medicine for Good

A new incision-less surgery offers hope to those suffering from heartburn or acid reflux disease. The Tran oral Incisionless Fundoplication procedure or TIF® for the treatment of gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) will soon be available from Dr. Lana Nelson at Norman Regional Health System’s Moore Medical Center.

Dr. Nelson is one of two specialists in Oklahoma to be trained on the TIF procedure. Learn more about this new procedure here.
